Fairway Colombo Street Food Festival
So you've been seeing on Facebook that everyone's going to this "street food festival" ? And such colourful photos that it seems like from somewhere else.
So a few weeks back we spend our eve at the Fairway Colombo Street Food Festival hosted by FairWay Colombo. The street was lit up with lights above us which gave a pretty effect on the DSLR photos taken on sight. Like this. And this is us.
Now about the important stuff; FOOD ! So, there was a variety of food from kotttu, burgers, pizza, macaroni, sausages, kebabs. pork ribs, BBQ chicken and so on and a few types of dricks with mojitos seen in abundance.
Forgive me for not having photos or remembering the names of the foodhuts, but will update them when I visit again.
However, the spicy kottu we had at LKR 450 was truly spicy and cheesy and the portion was worth the money. The Cheese chicken kottu on the other hand again at LKR 450 was a bland in taste and lacking cheese with a small piece of chicken kept on the top.
The mojitos at LKR 200, were tasty although were virgin despite them pouring a shot of vodka into it. No offence but it's as if they blended the vodka with water to be cost effective.
Pork ribs again at LKR 450 was heavenly and they gave very good portion of it along with a tasty sauce on the top and plenty of it as well.
The tacos, meh. The nachos seem to taste like a day old papadams along with a very bad salsa dip. Go to Taco bell if you need to have tacos and nachos. (Read my review on Taco Bell) Because you'll lose your faith on those heavenly Mexican treats if you try them for the first time at the street food festival.
The pizza stand had like 4 varieties of pizza which i do not recall the names of, a slice at LKR 200 and upwards. The "4 cheese" pizza slice looked as if it had 4 types of cheese and did taste good, although not extraordinary.
Overall the food was okay, but as per my opinion it's more of the whole experience than the food. There's live music going on and the street if filled with people with wooden tables and benches in the middle of it and the food is in the air ! The smell I mean. It's a nice place to spend sometime with your partner or catch up with a bunch of friends over a plate of something may be or maybe not worth of its price.
The name "Street food" should be rather because it's food on the street and not because they're actually street food or lower in prices for that matter. I saw some places with PRICE++ for taxes. Well you can go to a proper restaurant if you wanna pay tax on the food you eat, so avoid them.
It's there like once a month now so make plans with your friends and check it out.
Average price for 2 : Anything between 1000-3000 that's if you try a few types and places.
Tip : Take a good walk around checking out all the food huts and discreetly observe the portion sizes from those who have already bought them so you can avoid disappointments later. :D
