RIU Ahungalla - a new place for an escape

Image
RIU Sri Lanka is a nice addition to the Sri Lankan hotel scene. If your journey to the hotel starts from Colombo, it will only take 2 hours to reach there. As RIU has more than 100 hotels all over the world, our expectations were high. Rather mixed feelings about this hotel. I'll start with the good bits, Fantastic location The hotel is located on the lovely Ahungalla beach. The sunset, when you are in a pool with a nice exotic cocktail in your hand, is something you should experience in your life. With a nice pool with an amazing view over to the beach with a swim-up pool bar which serves some good cocktails and few other beverages, RIU Ahungalla certainly gives you a blissful warm experience. Comfy rooms They have few different kind of suites, basically with king-size bed or two double beds, satellite TV, air conditioning, a minibar, and a balcony or terrace. If you can spend extra, always go for a room with the sea view. You will love waking up in the m...

Sugar Bristo & Wine Bar

Image
Sugar Bristo & Wine Bar is located at the front of the Crescat Boulevard and is a restaurent with a very nice atmosphere. You can either dine inside or out in the open depending on your mood and the availability of seating. We prefer to sit outside as it's well lighted with a nice surrounding. Interior designing is well down as well as the exterior. So, first we ordered the Bacon Butty at LKR 700 where there's an option for beef bacon as well. However, I went with the pork. It came with sides of picked veggies and potato wedges. It was such a perfect dish that I ate slowly savoring the taste of each bite despite the fact that I was very hungry at the moment. The sandwich was generous with bacon and season very well it tasted like heaven in my mouth. The veggies were well seasoned as well and so were the potato wedges and they were very crispy adding on to the appetite. So, if you love bacon, this dish is the one for you and worth its price as well. Then we ordered...

Finally something to taco-bout ^_^ [ DAY ONE ]

Image
Taco Bell is our new found love ! We first went there a day or two after it opened and the line was pouring out the door because of the hype of the new franchise for the first time in Sri Lanka. So we turned away and returned again like a week after and we will never regret going there. The walls outside was covered with graffiti and there were drawings on the walls inside as well. The music was nice and not bursting your eardrums as it was on the very first days so that's a good improvement. There were few types of seating. The table with the highchairs had plug points with USBs as well hanging from the ceiling so you can charge your phone while you're there and also work on your laptop or have a quick business meeting. We wanted to try few different items as this was our first try at Mexican food. So, we bought a taco slider at LKR 800 with three crunchy tacos and one soft taco juggling them with the four different fillings Fajita chicken, Mexican chicken, Crispy c...

Let's Taco-bout the DAY TWO !!!

Image
So we went again ! :D We wanted to try something different this time so we went for a shareable, an assorted platter at LKR950 which came with cheesy nachos, 3 trips of crispy chicken and the hidden treasure of 4 pieces Fajita Chicken Quesadillas ! We bought a sour cream dip and a spicy salsa dip separately at LKR 60 each and we got another sour cream dip with the platter, which we didn't know we will get. As this is our second time here, the only thing we've not tried from this platter were the Fajita Chicken Quesadillas, and I'm pretty sure you'd like it because I LOOOOVEEED IT !!! They're amazing ! So cheesy with cubes of chicken and served hot ! Eat them with the spicy salsa dip and then it's just PURRFECT ! <3 This time we tried the Strawberry Mojito again at LKR 250 which was but again a little to sweet, yet a good palette cleanser to help you savor the variety of tastes in the food platter. So that's our review on the platter and trust...

Fairway Colombo Street Food Festival

Image
So you've been seeing on Facebook that everyone's going to this "street food festival" ? And such colourful photos that it seems like from somewhere else. So a few weeks back we spend our eve at the Fairway Colombo Street Food Festival hosted by FairWay Colombo. The street was lit up with lights above us which gave a pretty effect on the DSLR photos taken on sight. Like this. And this is us. Now about the important stuff; FOOD !  So, there was a variety of food from kotttu, burgers, pizza, macaroni, sausages, kebabs. pork ribs, BBQ chicken and so on and a few types of dricks with mojitos seen in abundance.  Forgive me for not having photos or remembering the names of the foodhuts, but will update them when I visit again.  However, the spicy kottu we had at LKR 450 was truly spicy and cheesy and the portion was worth the money. The Cheese chicken kottu on the other hand again at LKR 450 was a bland in taste and lacking cheese with a small piece of ch...
